Simone Serio

Dr. Simone Serio is a Technologist at the Institute for Genetic and Biomedical Research (IRGB-CNR), Research Unit in Milan, a position he has held since 2023. He is also a senior bioinformatician in Gianluigi Condorelli’s laboratory at Humanitas Research Hospital. He earned his degree in Bioinformatics from the University of Milano-Bicocca and obtained his PhD from the University of Insubria, Varese.

His research focuses on the integrative analysis of multi-omics datasets, including bulk and single-cell transcriptomics, epigenomics, and chromatin profiling, with a main interest in cardiac aging and the molecular mechanisms underlying cardiovascular disease. In particular, he investigates how epigenetic remodeling, chromatin regulation, and intercellular communication contribute to age-related cardiac dysfunction and disease progression.

Over the years, he has developed expertise in next-generation sequencing data analysis and in the implementation of computational workflows for transcriptomic and epigenomic studies. His current research on cardiac aging builds on his first publication in this field and is now being extended through a broader investigation of the epigenetic and metabolic mechanisms underlying cardiac remodeling, also in collaboration with the University of Insubria, Varese, particularly with Prof. Roberto Papait.
